4 juveniles arrested, 1 at large after crashing stolen car while fleeing from Metro Gang Unit

WEST JORDAN, Utah, Oct. 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Four juveniles have been arrested and a fifth remains at large in the aftermath of a stolen car crash in West Jordan late Friday night.

According to Unified Police Lt. Ken Malone, the accident happened just minutes after members of the Unified Police Metro Gang Unit tried to make a routine traffic stop about 11:40 p.m., near 9000 South and 700 West.

Malone told Gephardt Daily the officers had just initiated the stop when the suspect vehicle sped off.

The Metro Gang Unit did not give chase, Malone said.

According to police scanner traffic, officers did follow at a distance and witnessed the car with the juveniles, ages 14 to 17, slam into another vehicle waiting at the traffic light at 9000 South 700 West.

Three male juveniles jumped from the stolen car and attempted to escape on foot. A female juvenile remained in the vehicle after she suffered a large facial laceration.

Police said the couple inside the other car, which was sitting at the traffic light, had only minor injuries.

Officers managed to track down all three male juveniles, who were taken into custody.

The injured girl was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and then placed under arrest.

Malone said all four will likely face charges of possessing a stolen car and fleeing from police.

Gephardt Daily is following this story and will provide an update as new information becomes available.
