4 LDS missionaries based in Logan injured in fatal Idaho crash

PRESTON, Idaho, April 25, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Four LDS missionaries serving in the Utah-Logan mission were injured Wednesday in a car crash in Preston, Idaho, which left two elderly people in another vehicle dead.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints released the following statement at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday:

Four missionaries serving in the Utah Logan Mission were involved in a serious automobile accident Wednesday afternoon on Highway 89 near Preston, Idaho.
While all four missionaries survived and are expected to recover, the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were killed. Our hearts go out to their families and loved ones at this tragic time.
 
The following missionaries were involved:
· Elder Charly Sistrunk, age 67, and his wife, Sister Debra Owens Sistrunk, age 62, both from Preston, Idaho
· Elder Elijah Wall, age 19, from Elizabethtown, Kentucky
· Elder William Wilson, age 18, from Lexington, Kentucky
 
We pray that all those impacted by this accident will feel the comfort and the sustaining power of the Spirit in the days ahead.

The driver and passenger killed in the other vehicle were L. Max Richards, 83, and Phyllis Richards, 80, a married couple from Franklin, Idaho, according to the Preston Citizen. The accident happened at 12:46 p.m. Wednesday three miles south of Preston.

According to the Idaho State Police, the accident happened when the Richards’ Jeep Grand Cherokee turned in front of the 2011 Ford Edge carrying the missionaries. The Richards died at the scene.

The four missionaries in the Ford Edge were transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital.

  1. People who are 62 and 67 could hardly be considered elderly. Is that the only adjective the news can use to describe people over 50?
