SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, June 5, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A $5,000 reward is being offered for new information leading to the arrest and prosecution of men wanted in the beating of a restaurant worker who reportedly tried to protect a gay couple that the group was chasing and threatening.

The reported incident happened Saturday at Doki Doki, 249 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City, according to information from the Utah Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, which is offering the reward.

The business is close to Library Square, where the Utah Pride Festival was going on.

A married gay couple was chased by a group of young men who were shouting homophobic insults and threats, according to reports.

Terrance Mannery, who works at Doki Doki, “attempted to protect the gay couple as they fled into the shop, saying they were being chased and called homophobic slurs and making death threats,” a news release issued by the Chamber says.

“As Mannery tried to close and lock the doors to the shop, at least one of the perpetrators attacked him.”

The Utah Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce created an anti-violence fund “to provide the victims of homophobic or trans phobic crimes and to provide resources for the prosecution of perpetrators of such crimes,” the statement says. Reward money would come from that fund.
