ST. GEORGE, Utah, Feb. 6, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A $5,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction of the person responsible for burning the St. George LDS Stake Center.
The under-construction building, intended as a gathering place for multiple congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was gutted byfire in the early morning hours of Jan. 26.
The reward, announced Wednesday, is being offered by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Denver Division.
Fire officials classified the burning of the St. George East Stake Center, at 449 S. 300 East, as a criminal act because the fire started at the exterior of the building at a site with no electrical- or heat-related elements.
Damage to the nearly completed building was extensive, with the roof caving in due to fire damage.
“To report information about this crime, individuals should contact the St. George Police Department tip line at 435-627-4338 or ATF at 1-888-ATF-TIPS,” a news release on the reward says.
“Information can also be sent to ATF Tips@atf.gov, through the ATF’s website at www.atf.gov/contact/atftips. Tips can be submitted anonymously using the Reportit® app, available from both Google Play and the Apple App store, or by visiting www.reportit.com.”
