BEAVER, Utah, July 24, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A child was critically injured Wednesday when the vehicle in which she was a passenger slid into the median on a rain-soaked Interstate 15 and rolled.

The Utah Highway Patrol said a maroon Chevrolet Tahoe was heading north on I-15 near milepost 125 at about 5:19 p.m.

The 26-year-old woman who was driving lost control of the vehicle on the wet roadway and it slid off the road into the median and rolled once.

Neither the driver nor her 6-year-old female passenger were wearing seat belts, and the 6-year-old girl was partially ejected from the Tahoe.

She suffered critical injuries and had not regained consciousness, the UHP news release said.

The woman and the child were both transported by ambulance to Beaver Valley Hospital, and the child was then transported to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City by medical helicopter.

The driver had minor injuries.

“Speed above the posted limit doesn’t seem to be a factor, however tire tread depth was minimal on the rear tires,” the news release said. “The combination of tire conditions, wet roadway and vehicle speed were all contributing factors in the driver losing control.”

“The lack of seat belt and an appropriate child restraint device is a major factor for the severity of injury sustained by the child,” it said.
