RICHFIELD, Utah, June 2, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Central Utah Fire Interagency announced Sunday that the first half of its two-day prescribed burn on Monroe Mountain went well.

On Saturday, about 900 acres of mountain brush, aspen and mixed conifers in the Washburn Basin near Signal Peak. Fire Marshals had two helicopters to help with the burn.

“Today, fire managers will continue to build off previous prescribed fires in the area,” the Sunday statement says. Residual smoke and fire activities will continue even after this weekend’s prescribed fires in the area.

The fires are intended to improve forest health, especially that of the fire-dependent aspens.

There is no need for residents to call it in as a potential wildfire since it is a prescribed and controlled burn, the agency says.
