MURRAY, Utah, June 27, 2016 (Gephart Daily) –A box truck, unable to avoid stopped traffic on the freeway, stuck a camping trailer from behind and scattered debris across all lanes of the freeway in Murray Monday afternoon.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said the accident happened on northbound I-15 near 5700 South just after noon when the driver of a SUV was pulling a camping trailer in the far left-hand lane of I-15. Traffic suddenly came to a stop because of a separate crash ahead.

A box trailer that was traveling behind the SUV did not stop and hit the camp trailer, traveled all the way through the trailer and into the back of the SUV.

Two children were taken to Primary Children’s Hospital, one with minor injuries, and a 13-year-old transported as a precaution. No other injuries were reported.

The debris from the camping trailer was spread across all of the northbound travel lanes.

UDOT is clearing the debris with a front end loader. Traffic is getting by on the right shoulder.

Troopers are asking others to avoid the area if at all possible. Royce anticipated the road closure to last until about 3:30 p.m.
