AMERICAN FORK CANYON, Utah, Aug. 1, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 16-year-old girl was transported to the hospital by Life Flight Monday morning after falling on the Timpooneke Trail in American Fork Canyon.

Utah County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Spencer Cannon said the teenager fell about 10 feet, and has a broken arm and lacerations to her head. She was flown to an area hospital in serious but stable condition.

Cannon said a helicopter with hoist capability worked to reach the teenager, and had flown her out by 11:30 a.m. It took search and rescue crews a couple of hours to locate and reach the girl.

He said the teenager was hiking with a group of girls, and was about two and a half miles away from the trailhead. One of the group had to hike approximately one mile to get cellphone reception and call 911.

Cannon said the circumstances leading to the fall are not yet known.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this story as information is made available.
