ROOSEVELT, Utah, July 24, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have promised increased enforcement in Roosevelt against juveniles — and their parents — after a fatal crash involving minors.

“On July 3, 2024, a tragedy occurred near Golf Course Drive and Areva Road in Roosevelt, Utah, that resulted in the death of a child,” the Roosevelt City Police Department said online.

Several children, ages 11, 12 and 13, were riding in a golf cart on the roadway when the 12-year-old driver made a sharp turn, causing a 13-year-old girl to fall from the vehicle, police said in the Tuesday press release.. She was transported to the Uintah Basin Medical Center, then to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, where she died from her injuries.

“As a result of this incident, the Roosevelt City Police Department will be giving more attention to the issue of unlicensed minors driving golf carts, ATVs, motorcycles, etc. on city streets.

“Roosevelt City Police Chief Mark J. Watkins has instructed his officers stop any children engaged in this behavior.”

Actions could include citing parents of the offending juveniles, the release said, as well as impounding vehicles.

The 13-year-old victim was from Texas, with family ties to Roosevelt, police said. “We are deeply saddened by her loss and this senseless accident.”
