Police searching for suspects after aggravated assault at SLC bar

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Sept. 17, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are searching for three or four men who allegedly assaulted a man at a popular downtown Salt Lake City bar in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers responded to a report of a fight at Cheers to You, a bar at 315 S. Main Street, at 12:33 a.m., the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release.

Witnesses said three to four males assaulted another man.

When officers arrived the victim was unconscious and was subsequently transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

One of the suspects is described as a 23-year-old man with a medium complexion, very short hair and a small tattoo near his eye.

Just six minutes later, in what police believe was an unrelated incident, two groups were involved in an altercation at the Wasted Space bar located at 342 S. State Street. That altercation continued to a nearby parking garage at 55 E. Exchange Place. On the lower-level of the parking garage, a suspect fired several shots and a man was struck and was declared deceased at the scene. The victim has been identified as David Lawrence Burwell, 25.

The suspects fled in a vehicle; the investigation is ongoing.
