UTAH COUNTY, Utah, June 27, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Alpine Fire, which started Saturday afternoon and forced the closure of American Fork Canyon, is now 100 percent contained, officials said Tuesday.

The U.S. Forest Service said the fire burned 99 acres and there is currently one crew on site, monitoring hot spots and doing further clean up.

At about 11 p.m. Sunday, the National Forest Service tweeted that the fire was 30 percent contained at 109 acres.

On Monday, two crews, one squad and a helitac crew continued to strengthen the fire line and mop up hot spots, according to the tweet.

Utah County crews were assisting, as well as Salt Lake County, and a 20-person hotshot crew was diverted from the Shepard Fire in Farmington to American Fork. A 20-person hotshot crew from Boise, Idaho, also was on scene.

Investigators determined that the fire was caused by an abandoned campfire that escaped its rock fire ring.

No homes were being threatened, officials said.

American Fork Canyon and Timpanogos Cave were closed Sunday while firefighters continued to fight the blaze.
