AMERICAN FORK, Utah, Sept. 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are looking for answers after a memorial set up for Utah County Sheriff’s Office fallen officer Sergeant Cory Wride was vandalized in American Fork.

American Fork Police Department said in a Facebook post Tuesday it appears someone has damaged the face of the monument in Robinson Park.

Police said the damage will cost approximately $400 to repair, but 40 minutes after the initial Facebook post, the department posted: “To all of those who have called willing to donate money to repair the Cory Wride monument, thank you! Through a private donation the cost to repair/replace the granite has been covered. We express our sincere appreciation to members of the community for your generous offers.”

Wride was shot and killed Jan. 30, 2014, while checking on what he believed was an abandoned vehicle on State Route 73, near Eagle Mountain.

The monument was placed in Robinson Park not long after that event, as Wride grew up in American Fork.

“The monument is in recognition of Cory and his dedicated service to the citizens of Utah County,” said the department in the initial post.

Anyone that has information on this vandalism should contact the police department at 801-763-3020.
