Armed man barricaded Thursday night in Hurricane home

HURRICANE, Utah, July 4, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – An armed standoff with a barricaded man lasted more than five hours Thursday night in Hurricane.

Hurricane PD issued a shelter-in-place notice shortly after the incident began just after 4 p.m., advising residents in the area of 290 N 3560 W to remain indoors “while we work through the incident. We will send out an ‘all clear’ when the situation is resolved.”

Multiple agencies were reported at the scene, including the Washington City Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter.

By 9 p.m. the sheriff’s office issued an update, saying the barricaded man was considered possibly suicidal and armed with a rifle and a handgun.

“A Shelter in Place has been issued by Hurricane Police and we ask that everyone in the area still follow that.”

Police also asked residents to hold off on fireworks celebrations.

At 9:34 p.m. police announced the man had surrendered.

“The subject is in custody. He was taken without injury to himself or officers. The area is still closed to traffic for the investigation. If you live in the immediate area please contact an officer at the closure and we will work with you to get you back home as quickly as possible.
