According to Deputy Chief Justin Hoyal of Unified Police, it all started around 11 p.m with reports of a robbery at the Shell Gas Station at 8150 W. 3500 South.

Witnesses say the 17-year-old suspect entered the store, jumped the counter, then pulled a handgun while demanding cash. The clerks complied and the robber sped off in a silver Jeep Liberty.

Police put out an attempt-to-locate call and moments later the Jeep was spotted by West Valley police officers. Investigators say the suspect led officers on a high speed chase before abandoning the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot at 3100 S. 5600 West.

A short while later the suspect was spotted outside a Carl’s Jr. on 5600 West. When he refused to surrender police sent in a K-9 officer who managed to subdue the suspect.

The 17-year-old was placed in custody then taken to the hospital to be treated for dog bite wounds.

An 18-year woman who was found inside the suspect’s car was also being questioned. Police say it’s unclear if she was an accomplice.

The 17-year old suspect is said to be a wanted fugitive. His identity has yet to be released.
