SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – July 3, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) Salt Lake City Fire Department responded to a pair of fires at two different fraternity houses near the University of Utah campus Friday morning just minutes apart from each other.
Fire officials said the first fire was reported at the Pi Kappa Alpha house at 1431 East 100 South around 4:13 a.m. When crews arrived they found a fire burning in a third floor game room which they quickly put out.
.
A second call came in at 4:31 a.m when SLC fire crews were dispatched to a second fraternity, the Beta Theta Pi House, located at 70 South Wolcott (1455 East) at the report of a fire in the basement laundry room.
 .
When firefighters arrived, they found that the sprinkler system had kept the small fire under control.
 .
Both fraternities were evacuated during the fires and no injuries were reported at either incident.
 .
Investigators say they received positive hits from an accelerant detecting K-9, indicating an accelerant was used to start both fires.
.
Salt Lake City Fire Department is asking anyone with information on this morning’s frat house fires to call 801-799-3000.
