BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah, March 26, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 64-year-old man is dead after an explosion at the Autoliv facility in Promontory in the early hours of Monday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Ronald Larson, of Cache Valley, according to a news release issued by Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Dale Ward.
Box Elder dispatch received a report of a building fire at the automotive safety supplier’s facility, which is located at 16700 W. UT-83, just before 2:15 a.m., according to the news release.
“A male individual was trapped inside and on site personnel were making efforts to try and extricate him from the building,” the news release goes on. “The on-plant ambulance had been notified and they were requesting Brigham City Ambulance and paramedics to respond.”
Larson was successfully extricated from the building and transported to Brigham City Hospital with severe burns. Upon arrival at the hospital, Larson had stopped breathing and lifesaving efforts were in progress, officials said. He was pronounced deceased a short time after arrival at the hospital.
An immediate cause of the explosion is not known at this time.
Larson was reported to be alone in the mixing portion of the building at the time of the incident. There were reports of other personnel being injured; the extent of those injuries is not known at this time other than they are not life-threatening.
Box Elder detectives have gathered information and the investigation is ongoing, the news release said. As this is an apparent industrial accident, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will be the lead agency.
