Backcountry skier breaks leg, search and rescue responds to Big Cottonwood Canyon

BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Jan. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — LifeFlight and search and rescue crews were called in Saturday to rescue a woman who broke her leg while backcountry skiing in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

According to Unified Police officials, the 24-year-old woman broke her leg while skiing off Powder Park 1, which lies between Big Cottonwood Canyon and Park City Ski Resort.

UPD first posted about the incident at about 1:30 p.m.

Roads through the canyon were expected to be closed intermittently during the rescue effort.
