GREEN RIVER, UTAH – November 5, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Officials have identified the body of a woman who was found on the Green River last Thursday by a man in a boat.

Emery County Sheriff’s Office stated in a press release the body belonged to a 48-year-old woman named Michelle Marie Went of Green River. Detectives said the initial news release garnered several calls of missing people but one person in particular called about a friend they had not seen since October 3, 2015.

With the help of the State Medical Examiner’s Office and State Crime Lab they were able to positively match her to the identity of the caller’s friend.

Went’s body was found after personnel responded to Green River State Park, where the man who had spotted the body helped them locate her on a sandbar about one mile south of the bridge where I-70 crosses the Green River.

Police said it was initially unclear if the body was male or female. They say there were no tracks around the body other than animal tracks, and it appeared the body washed up from the river.

ECSO Detectives and the State Medical Examiner’s Office are continuing their investigations as to cause of death and the circumstances surrounding death.
