SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 12, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Ballet West’s “The Nutcracker” will return to live performances this holiday season.
Choreographed by Ballet West Founder Willam Christensen, “The Nutcracker” will run for 23 matinee and evening performances from Dec. 4 through Dec. 26 at the Janet Quinney Lawson Capitol Theatre at 50 W. 200 South. Evening performances begin at 7 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m., and a holiday matinee on Christmas Eve at noon.
“Following the successful production of Dracula, where many performances were sold out, demand for ‘The Nutcracker’ is expected to be high,” said Adam Sklute, Ballet West artistic director. “More than 13,000 tickets have already been sold, which is tracking to become our highest level of sales in 25 years.”
The $3 million production is a ballet in two acts based on a fairy tale by E.T.A. Hoffmann and set to a score by Tchaikovsky, performed by a live orchestra.
“Immediately following each matinee, except Dec. 24, Ballet West will host on-stage Sugar Plum Parties for children,” according to a Ballet West news release. “During the parties, young audience members can join the Sugar Plum Fairy and other favorite characters from the ballet for refreshments and a special treat.”
The Nutcracker will also be performed in Ogden Friday, Nov. 26, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 27, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Val A. Browning Center, 3750 Harrison Blvd., at Weber State University.
