PROVO, Utah, Nov. 19, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A guest who refused to vacate a Provo motel room was taken into custody Monday, after a constable who was trying to evict him reported seeing a weapon and hearing what he thought were gunshots inside the room.

According to a Provo PD press release, the incident was reported to police about 3:20 p.m.

Provo officers responded and evacuated guests from neighboring rooms, the release said.

When the man refused to exit his room, or respond to officers’ requests for communication, the Wasatch Behavioral Health Mobile Crisis Outreach Team was called in to assist police negotiators.

“At approximately 4:50 p.m., Provo/Orem/BYU Metro SWAT, as well as UCSO SWAT personnel responded to the motel” and ultimately fired gas canisters into the room.

“At around 6:05 p.m. officers were successful in extracting the male from his room, and he was taken into custody.”

The suspect, identified as Jerod Agee, was transported to Utah Valley Hospital for a medical evaluation before being booked into the Utah County Jail.

Police say Agee now faces multiple charges, including “trespass of a dwelling, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.”
