SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 14, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Heavy rain did nothing to stop a basement fire Wednesday night in Salt Lake City, but fire crews were able to bring it under control.

The fire, at 2121 Scenic Drive, was called in just before 7 p.m., said Audra Sorenson, spokeswoman for the Salt Lake City Fire Department. Crews arrived to find two people had left the residence, Sorenson said, and they were treated on scene for minor injuries.

A third person was transported to University of Utah Hospital for evaluation of minor injuries.

The fire was knocked down within 15 minutes of the 32 firefighters’ arrival, Sorenson said, and it was declared “all clear” within 30 minutes.

“The three individuals have been displaced from their house,” she said. “They won’t be able to stay here tonight, but we will be here, on scene, making sure it’s safe and evaluating the cause of the fire and the damages.”

Sorenson said fires are more rare during heavy rainstorms, but the basement location was somewhat protected from the storm.
