HOOPER, Utah, Sept. 27, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 62-year-old man was hospitalized Friday morning after he was hit in traffic while on a bicycle.
At approximately 7:49 a.m., deputies from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a car versus bicyclist accident in the area of 5100 W 4000 S in Hooper, the sheriff’s office posted Friday afternoon.
“Deputies from patrol and the Sheriff’s Traffic Unit arrived on the scene and discovered that a 62-year-old male bicyclist, traveling eastbound on 4000 S, had been struck from behind by an SUV.
“The bicyclist sustained serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.” The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The case is currently under active investigation, and no further details are available.
“The Weber County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public that in vehicle-bicycle crashes, the cyclist is often the most vulnerable to injury.
“Motorists and cyclists are encouraged to follow the rules of the road and remain vigilant to help prevent these types of accidents.”
