Update: Hiker found dead after fall in Big Cottonwood Canyon identified

BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, Utah, Oct. 25, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Unified Police Department has identified a 29-year-old male hiker found dead in Big Cottonwood Canyon Tuesday afternoon.

Garrett Schroedter, of Midvale, fell about 300 to 400 feet in a rocky area, according to UPD. Schroedter was an employee of Snowbird Mountain Resort.

Salt Lake County Search and Rescue crews and police located the deceased hiker in the area of the Mill B South, said Lt. Brian Lohrke, spokesman for UPD.

Schroedter went hiking Monday afternoon and posted pictures on social media.

Crews were alerted that he was overdue when he didn’t show up for work Tuesday.
