SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 19, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City’s mayor-elect is also a bride to be.

Jackie Biskupski, who is openly gay, on Saturday confirmed the news on her Facebook page, with the following message:

“My life couldn’t be any better. I am so grateful for all the support I have received and we are all looking forward to the future. #‎family‬.”

Biskupski, who turns 50 on Jan. 11, also posted a portrait of herself with adopted son Archie, 5; finance Betty Iverson, 55, of Colorado; and Iverson’s adopted son Jack, 11.

“Um, this is kind of a big deal,” said one friend who responded to Biskupski’s Facebook post, which had been shared 53 times by 2 p.m. Saturday, seven hours after it was posted.

At that hour, Biskupski’s post also had 99 replies and 786 “likes,” including likes from members of the LGBT activist and arts communities.

Same sex marriage became legal in Utah on Dec. 20, 2014. Various legal challenges to that law were mounted by the Utah state government, but ultimately failed.

Biskupski will be sworn into office as mayor on Jan. 4.
