Body found in Ogden River ID’d

OGDEN, Utah, Sept. 5, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A body found by inner tubers Saturday in the Ogden River has been identified.

The deceased is 49-year-old Carl Roper, who was reported missing on Aug. 27 after he went fishing and failed to return home, according to information released by the Ogden City Police Department.

Roper was last seen fishing west of Wall Avenue. His body was spotted in the area of 600 West and about 20th Street by four friends tubing in the river. They initially thought they had spotted a garbage bag, but checked and discovered it was a body.

Roper’s remains were found about a quarter-mile downstream of where he was last seen. His cause of death is still under investigation.
