RIVERDALE, Utah, April 17, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A jogger on a path near the Weber River spotted a body in the water Tuesday morning.

Riverdale police arrived at the scene at about 6:45 a.m., according to reports. The remains are those of an elderly man who was found in a popular fishing area. Officials speculate he died from a medical issue because he was found in water that was only a few feet deep.

The man has been identified by police, but his name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

Lt. Casey Warren, Riverdale police spokesman told Gephardt Daily that the victim was a Weber County resident in his late 60s, who walked with a cane. Warren said investigators believe the man may have traveled to the site on Monday to fish.

Warren said the body has been transported to the Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine cause of death. Foul play is not suspected.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this story as information becomes available.
