KANAB, Utah, Aug. 6, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Dispatchers for Kane County have confirmed that the body of a missing man from Kanab has been found.
Devun Hansen, who has been described as 19 and 20 years old in different news releases, was reported missing last week. He was last seen on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 1.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Department released a statement Monday evening indicating that Hansen’s body was found at about 4 p.m. Monday, and circumstances indicate he may have taken his own life.
“His death appears to be a suicide,” the statement says. “We thank the many volunteers who have spend hundreds of hours looking for Devun the last few days.
“Our thoughts are now with his family and we ask you to afford them some privacy as they mourn his loss. We appreciate the many people who have commented on how liked Devun was.”
Organizers using the Help Us Find Devun Hansen Facebook page had been planning a city-wide search of Kanab on Tuesday.
A family statement posted on the Facebook page after the sheriff’s announcement went out says the following:
“We would like to extend a special thanks to everyone in the city of Kanab for your efforts in the search for Devun. Your help has not gone unnoticed. Every business that posted a flyer, the police and sheriff’s department that have been so good to our family and to all of our support system back in Salt Lake helping from afar.
“Devin has been found, but unfortunately, he is gone. Our family needs some time to process so please be understanding of that during this time. We promise to do all that we can to honor him as the wonderful person he was.”
I am so very sorry for your loss.
I pray for you all. Be strong. May God watch over Devun.
