GARFIELD COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 31, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The body of a man who left Boulder, Utah, for a day hike more than a month ago has been found.

Norman Everett Applegate Jr., 72 years old and from Seaside Park, New Jersey, never returned from his Sept. 26 hike.

Applegate’s body was located Tuesday near the town of Boulder. His remains were recovered by search and rescue teams on Wednesday.

“Preliminary investigation has shown no suspicious activity in Mr. Applegate’s death, however the cause of his death is still under investigation,” a statement from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office says.

“Our deepest sympathy for his family.”

Boulder is 27 miles northeast of Escalante on Utah Scenic Byway 12 at its intersection with the Burr Trail. As of the 2010 census, the town population was 226, a Wikipedia article says.
