SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, July 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The body of Ray Humpherys, who had been missing since Wednesday while on a camping trip, has been found, Summit County Sheriff Justin Martinez stated in a news release late Tuesday.
The 66-year-old West Jordan man’s body was found at about 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Middle Fork drainage area, approximately 1.5 mile west of where he was last seen near Hidden Lake, the news release said.
Officials do not suspect foul play in Humpherys’ death, and “the injuries are consistent with the harsh terrain and environment.”
The body has been transported to the State of Utah Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Humpherys had been missing since about 10 a.m. Wednesday, when he did not return from camping overnight in the Hidden Lake Area of the Wasatch National Forest.
Authorities were notified midday Thursday, and a search by the SCSO and Search and Rescue began immediately.
Several other organizations and hundreds of volunteers also devoted thousands of hours to the search, which continued through Tuesday afternoon.
“Sheriff Justin Martinez and team express our most sincere condolences to the Humpherys Family,” the release states.
The Humpherys Family has asked for privacy while they grieve their loss.
