ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah, June 5, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials said the body found at the base of the Great Arch in Zion National Park Thursday was that of a 23-year-old man from San Diego, California, who committed suicide.
The man died from “blunt force trauma” from a fall of approximately 500 feet, according to a news release from the National Park Service. His name was not immediately released.
An abandoned vehicle was reported to park enforcement near the Canyon Overlook Trail at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday, according to an earlier news release from the NPS.
Rangers searched that area, and later in the evening, the body was discovered at the base of the Great Arch, then recovered by park staff Thursday with the help of a helicopter.
Gephardt Daily does not usually report on suicides unless they occur in public places or otherwise impact the community.
