BOUNTIFUL, Utah, Nov. 17, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A 12-year-old girl was recovered nearly eight hours after she was reportedly abducted.
Bountiful City police were dispatched to the area of 400 West and 200 North at 12:20 a.m. Sunday. Family members said the girl had been taken by a man believed to be in his 20s.
“The male was confronted by family members and fled in a 2011 white Chevrolet Camaro with no visible license plate, a black hood, and a social media handle sticker on the back fin of the vehicle,” a statement from Bountiful Police says.
The agency activated the Davis County Child Abduction response team, and the investigation began.
“At approximately 8:06 a.m., Bountiful patrol officers observed a white Chevrolet Camaro matching the suspect vehicle driving around the area of the abduction. The driver of the vehicle began to drive erratically when officers began following, and a pursuit was initiated,” the BPD news release says.
“The pursuit entered Interstate 15 at a high rate of speed. The suspect vehicle took Interstate 215 westbound. While attempting to navigate the overpass, the suspect vehicle ran into the back of a Woods Cross Police vehicle, disabling both vehicles.”
A male was taken into custody without incident, the statement says, adding “A Glock 17 handgun was located on the driver’s floorboard.
“The Bountiful Police Department is working on positively identifying the suspect before information is released.
“The juvenile female was transported to a local hospital by South Davis Metro Fire for evaluation. The juvenile female did not sustain any injuries from the accident.”
The Woods Cross Police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
“The Bountiful Police Department extends appreciation to all the agencies who assisted in this investigation.”
