BOUNTIFUL, Utah, March 20,2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A 49-year-old woman is in custody after an armed standoff came to an end in Bountiful early Tuesday morning.

Corporal Scott Gilbert of the Bountiful Police Department told Gephardt Daily the 6 hour ordeal began when officers were called to a home at 2869 S. 450 West around 8 p.m. by a man who said his girlfriend had pulled a gun on him.

Police arrived at the home and tried to talk to the woman but she refused to make contact and barricaded herself inside.

Neighbors were told to stay inside their homes, while the SWAT team took up positions outside the suspect’s house.

After nearly six hours of attempted negotiations the SWAT team fired tear gas into the home.

Moments later the female suspect was taken into custody.

Cpl. Gilbert said the woman was transported to a local hospital where she was to be treated for exposure to the “chemical agents” fired into the home. She was then expected to be booked into jail on charges of aggravated domestic violence and other outstanding warrants.
