WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Sept. 17, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A family is grieving after a 6-year-old boy drowned Saturday in West Valley City.

West Valley City Police said the child, Jordan Kalapa, of Salt Lake City, was with his family visiting another family member who was staying at the Holiday Inn Express, 3036 S. Decker Lake Drive.

Several family members went swimming in the hotel’s indoor pool. At some point, they discovered Jordan underwater.

The emergency call about a possible drowning came in a little after 9 p.m. Family members had pulled Jordan from the water, and when police and medics arrived, a doctor who was staying at the hotel was already performing CPR on the child.

Medics transported the boy to the hospital, where medical staff continued life-saving efforts for more than an hour before the child was pronounced dead.

According to a police news release Saturday night, it was not yet clear how long the child was under water. Investigators will review hotel surveillance video as part of their investigation of the case.
