Breaking: Alex Whipple charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping in disappearance of 5-year-old Logan girl

LOGAN, Utah, May 29, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Alex Whipple, the main suspect in the disappearance of his niece, 5-year-old Lizzy Shelley, has been charged with kidnapping, aggravated murder, desecration of a human body, and two counts of obstruction of justice.

The charges were filed Wednesday morning at 10:45 a.m. and announced a short while later by Logan City Police Chief Gary Jensen.

According to Jensen, the decision to file charges five days after the child’s disappearance was based on evidence gathered over the past few days.

That evidence includes a bloody, broken knife consistent with those found at his sister’s and Lizzy’s residence, a hastily buried bloody teal dress found in pile of dirt and bark, Whipple’s wrist watch, a bloody sweatshirt and other blood DNA evidence directly linking Whipple to the child.

The girl’s body has yet to be recovered and search efforts are ongoing.
