COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, May 29, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police investigators from multiple agencies are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting in Cottonwood Heights.

The shooting was first reported about 6:30 a.m. in the area of 2200 E. 6600 South.

Cottonwood Heights public information officer Sgt. Ryan Shosted told Gephardt Daily the suspect was wanted in two reported armed robberies overnight at a nearby Smith’s and a local Macy’s store.

According to Ryan, a Cottonwood Heights officer was on his way to work about 6:07 a.m. when he spotted the suspect driving a dirt-bike matching the description of one reported from the early morning robberies.

A brief chase followed, and ended with the suspect being shot in a Cottonwood Heights neighborhood.

Neighbors say they awoke to the sound of gunfire, then saw officers administering first aid to a man on the front lawn of a nearby home.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital with what police describe as non-life-threatening injuries.

Salt Lake City police have been called in to handle the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

Officers from the Sandy Police Department are investigating the actual armed robberies.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on the scene and will update the story as more information becomes available.
