Breaking: At least 8 homes burned in Bountiful bench wildfire, 400 others threatened, mandatory evacuations underway

BOUNTIFUL, Utah, Aug.30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — At least eight homes have burned and hundreds of others are being threatened by a wind-driven wildfire on the Bountiful bench.

The Gun Range Fire was first reported about 1:00 a.m. with callers reporting a fire in the hills not far from the Bountiful Temple.

Within a matter of minutes, the fire had moved down the mountainside with at least four homes being engulfed in flames.

A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for 400 homes in northeast Bountiful where neighbors joined first responders as they went door-to-door to warn residents of the fast-moving fire.

According the Centerville Police Department, the evacuations were taking place in Bountiful near the Ridgeline Circle and Sunrise Circle.

Twenty-seven other homes were evacuated in Centerville.

Evacuation shelters are being set up at 900 South 400 East and 270 North in Centerville, as well as the LDS Church located at Main and Center Streets.

As of 5 a.m. 150 acres had been burned and the cause of the fire was had yet to be determined.

Firefighters were expected to attack the fire at first light in a coordinated effort including air support.
