Child struck, killed by SUV in Liberty Wells neighborhood

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 29, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City police investigators are on the scene of an accident which claimed a child's life Thursday night in the Liberty Wells neighborhood.

According to a SLCPD news release, the investigation started at 5:46 p.m. when SLC911 received reports of a crash involving a very young child near 350 East between 300 East and 400 East.

"Based on the preliminary investigation, the driver was operating his SUV in a driveway when he hit the child," the release said.

"When officers arrived, life-saving efforts were already in progress."

"Paramedics took the child to the hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, the child died," the SLCPD statement said.

"The driver, who is related to the injured child, remained at the scene and is cooperating with officers."

At this stage of the investigation, officers believe the incident was the result of a low-speed crash.

Wilson Avenue between 300 East and 400 East is expected to be closed for several hours.
