DRAPER, Utah, Dec. 28, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A late night apartment fire has claimed the life of a Draper man.

Eric Holmes, public information officer for the Unified Fire Authority, told Gephardt Daily firefighters were called to a residence at 105 E. 14965 South about 11:15 p.m. with neighbors reporting the smell of smoke.

When first responders arrived, they found the lower floor of a unit of the Liberty Hills Apartments at North Point engulfed in flames.

Firefighters entered the home and quickly knocked down the blaze before discovering a man dead in bed.

The victim — whose name has yet to be released — is described as a man in his early to mid sixties.

Investigators say they have yet to determine the cause of the fire, which appeared to have started below a staircase in a ground floor storage area, although there are some indications that a space heater may be to blame.

Gephardt Daily has a crew on the scene and will update the story as more information becomes available.
