SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Nov. 6, 2024 (South Jordan) — An explosion has turned most of a South Jordan residence to rubble, and one resident of the household has not been accounted for.

South Jordan Fire crews were dispatched to the scene at about 3 p.m. Wednesday, Ryan Lessner, deputy chief, told reporters at the scene. No casualties have been confirmed yet, he said.

“From what I’ve been able to see, there’s significant damage to the back side of the home,” he said. “At this point, we’ve got several fire investigators on scene to start, with the crew, to put the pieces together and identify what led up to this incident.”

Several neighbors’ homes appeared to have been damaged by the blast, he said. Those homes have been evacuated during the investigation.

“I’ve got firefighters evaluating all aspects of this,” he said, adding that multiple investigators are also on the scene.” One thing being evaluated is the stability of the part of the structure left standing.

Lessner said a call was put out for help, and multiple agencies responded. The roadways near the scene have been blocked, so drivers are urged to find other routes.

Gephardt Daily will have additional information as details are confirmed.
