OGDEN, Utah, Oct. 19, 2022 (Gephardt Daily) — First responders are on the scene of jet fighter crash at Hill Air Force Base.
According to Hill AFB statements posted to Twitter, “At approximately 6:15 p.m. an F-35 A Lightning II crashed at the north end of Hill Air Force Base runway. On and off base emergency crews responded immediately.
“The pilot ejected, was recovered and has been taken to local medical center for observation.” Hill AFB said.
“The cause of the crash is unknown and will be investigated.”
The crash led to a brushfire which burned between 8-10 acres on Department of Defense land, according to an online statement posted by Utah Fire Info.
Firefighters from Weber County resources along with Forestry, Fire and State Lands (FFSL) managed to knock down the flames “but continue with Haz-Mat and other logistics,” Utah Fire Info reported.
The West Gate to the base has to been closed to traffic until further notice, according to Hill AFB.
