MIDVALE, Utah, July 26, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting Monday night in Midvale.

UPD said Michael Anderson, 52, was shot to death behind a business at 7940 S. State St. at 8:53 p.m. Monday. A male suspect on scene was detained, and was being interviewed by law officers.

“Unified Police received a call of shots fired, and upon arrival, we discovered a male, deceased,” said Jim Winder, Salt Lake County Sheriff.

Winder said indications are that the suspect came to the location with the intent of contacting the victim, and that the two were known to each other.

“And during the course of that initial contact, there was a shooting,” Winder said.

The suspect is cooperating with the interviewing police, Winder said.

“We are investigating the circumstances that led him here tonight,” Winder said.

A firearm was found at the site, and investigative and forensic units were processing the scene. Winder said Monday evening that the interview was ongoing, but he believed the arrest of the suspect was imminent.
