UPDATE: Police arrest driver in fatal Highland Drive motorcycle-car accident, identify victim

COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, August 4, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Cottonwood Heights Police Department has identified the victim in a Thursday night motorcycle-car collision, and the name of the driver charged in the case.

The dead man is motorcyclist Rodney Russell, 43, of Sandy. The driver of the car police say that collided with Russell is Sally H. Sturtevant, 62, of Salt Lake City.

Sgt. Ryan Shosted, Cottonwood Heights Police Department, told Gephardt Daily that Sturtevant has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, and was taken into custody.

Lt. Mark Askerlund, Cottonwood Heights Police Department, told Gephardt Daily on Thursday night that the accident happened at about 7 p.m. when the cyclist, heading south at about 6900 S. Highland Drive, was struck by a northbound passenger car.

Russell was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the passenger car was uninjured.
