SALT LAKE CITY, Utah June 20, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Lyle Steed Jeffs, one of the sect leaders of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ Church of Latter-day Saints, has absconded from home confinement and is running from the law.

Melodie Rydalch, spokeswoman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Salt Lake City, told Gephardt Daily a federal arrest was issued for the FLDS leader on Sunday.

Jeffs, 56, fled some time over the weekend according to a statement on social media by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Jeffs had been freed from federal custody 11 days ago by U.S. District Judge Ted Stewart, and was placed on home confinement despite the objections of federal prosecutors who claimed he was flight risk.

The FBI is the lead agency in this fugitive investigation. A statement released Monday afternoon said the FBI will, with the assistance of law enforcement partners, vigorously pursue all leads for Jeffs’ apprehension.

Anyone with information on Jeffs’ whereabouts is asked to call the FBI Salt Lake City field office at 801-579-1400 or the local FBI office.

  1. It is sad to see the lives of children destroyed by sick adults who should be in rooms that keys have been thrown away after locking and sealing the key hole. WHO is this judge who released the mentally ill man?
