UTAH COUNTY, UTAH – August 25, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Nearly 40 firefighters and three helicopters are continuing to battle a wildfire in Santaquin that has burned nearly 450 acres and continues to grow.

The fire in Santaquin has nearly doubled in size in the last 24 hours and is only about five percent contained as of Tuesday afternoon.  But with strong winds moving the flames away from any structures, no homes appear to be in jeopardy at this time, and no evacuations have been ordered.

National Forest Service officials say multiple engines from their agency, Utah County and the Utah Strike Team are attacking the fire.

Reported rain storms expected on Tuesday should greatly benefit the ongoing effort to gain control over the blaze that started around 1:20 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Santaquin Canyon Road has been closed to public, and the cause of the fire is still unknown.
