SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, March 14, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have identified a knife-wielding man killed in a shooting Friday evening in South Salt Lake.
Investigators tell Gephardt Daily David Antonio Trujillo, 68, who was armed with a knife, was shot and killed by a resident in the vicinity of 3973 S. 200 East around 8:30 p.m.
Gary Keller, South Salt Lake Police Public Information Officer, said the shooting took place when the 39-year-old male resident encountered Trujillo in the rear of his home.
Keller said an altercation ensued at which time Trujillo was shot. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police have not found a current address for Trujillo, but he did frequent various hotels and motels in South Salt Lake. A motive has not been determined for why Trujillo was armed with a knife in the backyard of the residence where the shooting occurred.
The shooter is said to be cooperating with police; his name will not be released at this time.
Keller said the case is under investigation and no arrest has been made. When the investigation has been completed the case will be turned over to the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office for screening.
