Refinery Fire Out After Filling Sky Above Woods Cross With Black Smoke

WOODS CROSS, Utah, April 26, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An asphalt tank fire Tuesday at Foreland Refinery Company filled the sky above Woods Cross with billowing clouds of black smoke.

South Davis Metro Fire crews responded to the scene, at 1582 West and 2600 South, and were able to extinguish the fire without injuries or public evacuations.

The department did send out a Tweet asking area residents and business people to stay indoors with their windows closed while crews fought the fire.

The South Davis Metro Fire Authority later reported that the fire was started by a broken furnace pipe. Damages are estimated at $100,000. Fire gear damaged included 12 sets of fire tournout gear and 800 feet of hose.
