SPANISH FORK, UTAH – August 28, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – The Spanish Fork man killed Friday afternoon in an officer involved shooting has been identified as William Evans, age 28.
According to Spanish Fork Police Department spokesman, Lt. Matt Johnson, officers were called to a welfare check on Evans after receiving a call from relatives that he was suicidal, possibly armed, and under the influence of drugs.
Officers used Evans’ cellphone to track his whereabouts and were led to the area of 300 East and Center Street where they found his car in a church parking lot. Evans was nowhere to be found.
Moments later police say Evans returned to his car while raising a pistol in the direction of officers.
At least one officer opened fire fatally wounding Evans.
