Update: Wall Avenue business fire in Ogden determined to be ‘human caused’

OGDEN, Utah, April 14, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — The Ogden Fire Department spent much of Thursday night fighting a fire at 3350 Wall Ave.

Crews arrived at about 8:10 p.m. and discovered heavy smoke coming from the building. The fire was discovered in the commercial structure’s basement.

At about 11:38 p.m., Ogden Fire tweeted that the fire is controlled, and “crews will remain on scene throughout the night performing overhaul measures.”

No one was inside the business, so firefighters had to work to gain entry to search the building and extinguish the flames.

They were attempting to ventilate the building, when the roof division opened the roof and found additional fire in the ceiling, forcing firefighters to go into a “defensive strategy.”

OFD reports that 18 firefighters from Ogden and South Ogden Fire departments responded to the scene, along with two ladder trucks, three engines, an ambulance, a paramedic unit, the battalion chief and a fire investigator.

On Friday morning, information from the Ogden Fire Department revealed that the fire appeared to be human-caused, but no suspects were in custody.
