SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 21, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A man in his 40s is in critical condition and a pet dog is dead after a residential fire in Salt Lake City Tuesday afternoon.
Gephardt Daily first heard reports of the fire in the area of 1400 S. 500 East, which is south of Liberty Park, at 1:35 p.m.
Salt Lake City Fire Department public information officer Audra Sorensen said the call came to dispatch that there was a fire in the back of the home, likely in the kitchen, and the man was inside at the time of the incident.
The resident suffered smoke inhalation and had to be resuscitated, and was then transported to the University of Utah hospital. The dog died at the scene.
The cause of the fire and the exact extent of damages to the residence is not yet known.
Sorensen said the resident lives near family members, so investigators will be speaking with them to try and learn more about him and his history in the home.
It’s thought that a neighbor reported the fire.
The fire was extinguished in approximately five minutes. Approximately 12 firefighters battled the blaze.
