OGDEN, Utah, Jan. 28, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Authorities in Ogden say Saturday afternoon’s construction site fire was an act of arson and a 16-year-old male suspect is in custody.
Word of the arrest came by way of the Ogden City Police during a Tuesday 6 p.m. press conference.
According to Ogden Police Chief Jacob Sube, the fire, which started about 4:30 p.m at 255 22nd St., was “intentionally set, a fact which renders the act of crime of arson.”
Sube said the teen suspect was taken into custody Tuesday about 12:50 p.m.
“Although not an Ogden resident, we have confirmed that the suspect attends a school here in Ogden,” Sube said.
“He is being booked into the Weber Valley Youth Detention Center on three second degree felony charges, which include arson, causing a catastrophe and criminal mischief.
“At this time, the suspect’s identity will not be released due to his status as a juvenile.”
Sube said multiple agencies took part in the investigation, including: the Ogden City Police Department Investigations Bureau, the Ogden Fire Marshal, the Utah State Fire Marshal, ATF, Weber County Crime Scene Investigators, and the Weber County Attorney’s Office.
